But, first I need to do a quick back track. Like I said last Sunday Gat got out of bed for the first time. Barely holding his own weight, let alone independently walking in his walker. The next day, Monday, he did two therapy sessions where he was working hard but got super down on himself. It wasn't easy to watch him struggle trying to get his body to do the things he had worked already so hard to do pre-op. By Monday afternoon he independently was walking in his walker!!! He is such a stud. We were so proud because that was a huge mental day for him. And for him to come out on top like he did, gosh nothing better in my book. We are so thankful for God giving us an unbelievably strong boy and for being with us every step of the way.
So fast forward to today which is Tuesday. We have been home a week, started physical therapy and Gatlyn took his first steps without his walker yesterday! Which couldn't have come on a better day because it was a rough one here at the Schrock's. I'll give you a shortened version. 8am PT (I got up at 7:20), insurance sucks, referrals are annoying, walkers are easy to forget when you aren't used to it. Add all of those with 3 kids who hate getting out of bed in the morning it sounds like a disaster. And it WAS!
Nevertheless, I am so please with Gat's results thus far. He is exceeding all expectations once again. He continues to work hard and that makes me proud. I think he is realizing though that as he starts doing more, that we wont do as much for him. Going to the bathroom by himself has been the biggest battle. For some reason he thinks we need to help him do all of the things he can do easily by himself. But aren't all kids that way?!
Thank you so much for all your prayers and support. We owe all of our blessings to God. He is the only one that can do what has happened in Gatlyn's life.
