Let me start off saying that our son is pretty much a rock star. I think you would agree if you had been around him on surgery day. We started our day letting him sleep as long as he could. Which happened to be just past 7:30am. I was hoping for a little more sleep than that being that he couldn't eat all morning. But hey, I'll take what we can get. Gave him a bath and then he played until it was time to leave for the hospital. Which wasn't until 8:45. We got him into the car with some tears because he didn't want to leave the fun at the hotel. Plus he kept saying, "I don't want to go to a doctor appointment.". For me this is completely normal, he never wants to go but always does fine when we get there. But it was harder for everyone else, especially Andi. She is the only kid that understood what surgery was when we talked about. I tell ya that girl has a big enough heart for 6 people.
We arrived at the hospital and quickly went back to a room and were just waiting by 9:45. After different teams in and out we said our goodbyes to Gat at 11:50am. Jess and I both had some tears well up but never fully cried. And Gatlyn never cried at all (except for at the hotel)! That kid can take things in stride. Plus he can ignore people really well so that helps. After we got all set up with our pager we went and got some lunch. We both felt totally at peace during the whole wait. Dr. Park came and told us all went great around 3:45pm. After that we got to see him about a hour later in recovery. By 6pm we were settled into our room that would be Gatlyn's home for the next 5 days.
The girls and I were asleep within 15 minutes of getting in bed. From what Jess told me Gat did okay throughout the night. He slept most the night but at 4 am has decided that's wake up time.
I was planning on typing more out about our first three days but I will do some more tomorrrow. I need to get some sleep because we have a big day tomorrow! For some reason my photos won't upload so I will post those later as well.
Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support. We are so thankful. As for now please pray for Gatlyn's comfort and the girls for understanding. Thank you thank you!!
